Beau Nail: About us

Beau-Nail is a family business with a track record for innovation in the beauty business - and quality products.

Founded more than 30 years ago in England by Rosemary Barnes, a former scientist, we started out by launching an improved formulation of the old liquid and powder acrylic nails and our range of salon equipment.

Our pioneering formula was the first not to use methyl methacrylate, a chemical that was linked with allergies and was difficult to work with.

Coming up with a new formulation was a long and painstaking process – more than 60 different liquids were created and blended, then tested with various powders until a match was found that would work at salon temperatures.

It was a great step forward for the nail industry as a whole, and, of course, Beau-Nail.

Then in 1980 we were the first to introduce plastic nail tips, which replaced the old methods of moulding the nail over silver foil. Suddenly nails were easier to do.

Selling direct to salons, we quickly built up a strong customer base across the UK as the nail industry grew, and expanded markets in mainland Europe and Africa.

Our products became known for their superior quality at a reasonable price, and we went on to develop our own range of nail polishes and tips that helped cement our reputation.

By the late 1990s our founder decided it was time to retire and wound down the business.

But you can’t keep a good woman down and in 2008 she began work on a new system for creating nail extensions using the latest methods .

Gel nails are popular for ease of application and ability to dry in minutes under a UV light, but have to be filed off. And while soak off gels exist, the nail often lacks strength.

So the challenge was to produce a new gel that could be soaked off, yet still be strong and durable.

Most existing types of gels are made in the Far East, but there they have neither the best materials or the know how to create the best gels. Beau-Nail found both in the UK.

Rosemary looked at the latest advances in polymer technology and much research came up with a new formula with all the advantages of an ordinary nail gel – except it could be removed by soaking in acetone for as little as 15 minutes, leaving no sticky residue. Another feature of this new formulation is an extraordinary strength of the finished nail. Then she combined this with the most striking and popular colours from the original Beau-Nail range of nail polishes to produce this new and exciting product.

Now Beau-Nail is back and has recruited Rosemary’s son and daughter in law to create a dynamic team ready to look to the future.
